Testing underwater cameras!

This week I got to play around with our clients cameras during both snorkel and dive excursions. Two cameras really stood out for me, the GoPro Hero 4 and the new Olympus TG5.

The image above was taken with the TG5 using the UW setting on wide angle. There is no doubt how easy the GoPro is to use and for video it is hard to beat, saying that the TG5 shoots video up to 4K and can also shoot in slow motion. I was very impressed just how sharp the images came out on the TG5 and how you can easily switch from wide angle to macro internally. It also has a microscope setting for those really really close up shots of coral polyps. The snag with the TG5 is that it is rated to 10m which meant our captain would have to lower it to us near the end of our dives. Additional housings, dome lenses and accessories are available making this a very attractive compact underwater camera ideal for travel.
