Into the unknown.

This week I was fortunate to be able to really get out there and explore new and unchartered deeper reef and areas of interest. Out of 10 selected sites, 4 were very interesting with above average marine life. I got to check out the AUTEC tower lines from 50m on the Andros wall back to the tower at 10m, about an hour dive time. These artificial structures and cables provide a great substrate for marine life, including tube worms, sponges, tunicates and corals. It also meant I could experiment with the GoPro and video light, getting a bit creative at times (see my reflection in my buddy bubbles). This is my favourite kind of diving, going.... into the unknown.

Testing underwater cameras!

This week I got to play around with our clients cameras during both snorkel and dive excursions. Two cameras really stood out for me, the GoPro Hero 4 and the new Olympus TG5. The image above was taken with the TG5 using the UW setting on wide angle. There is no doubt how easy the GoPro is to use and for video it is hard to beat, saying that the TG5 shoots video up to 4K and can also shoot in slow motion. I was very impressed just how sharp the images came out on the TG5 and how you can easily switch from wide angle to macro internally. It also has a microscope setting for those really really close up shots of coral polyps. The snag with the TG5 is that it is rated to 10m which meant our cap

Aqua week - wetsuit stays on!

What an incredible week of marine adventures! My wetsuit stayed on for 6 days. It seemed that every guest wanted to dive, one minute I would be teaching a PADI course, then to escorting a group of extreme Lion fish hunters on our deeper reefs using Enriched Air Nitrox. Then down to the West side of the island guiding our nature tour to look for big animals like Tiger Sharks. I also had the pleasure of escorting Bill, back in the water, and at 76 years young he was incredible! What a great week filled to the brim with nature focussed scuba dive, snorkel and boat based tours! As I move in to my last month here in the Bahamas, I have learned to appreciate every minute of these amazing excursio
